Necessary Angel Theatre Company, in association with Factory Theatre, is pleased to announce that, due to popular demand, Rick Miller and Daniel Brooks’ extraordinary one-man show, Bigger Than Jesus, performed by the universally lauded Miller and directed by Brooks, Necessary Angel’s Artistic Director, has been extended one week.

Originally scheduled to run to December 12,  this critically acclaimed show will now run to December 19, 2004 at Factory Theatre’s Mainspace, 125 Bathurst St.

Weaving together the Catholic liturgy, the Gospels and some good old fashioned bible thumpin’, Bigger Than Jesus is a funny and poignant theatrical mass that questions the mysteries of life. With his trademark humour and using a bundle of high- and low-tech toys - even action figures - Rick Miller takes us on a contemporary exploration of faith and Christianity.

Critical praise has been heaped upon the production:

Richard Ouzounian, THE TORONTO STAR:

"Rick Miller and Daniel Brooks know exactly what they're doing in Bigger Than Jesus…and the final result manages to be extremely entertaining as well as highly provocative….

“[Miller] knows how to play a stereotype at full throttle without ever letting it dribble into a mere cartoon. His energy is prodigious, his magnetism unquestionable and his versatility inspiring."

Kamal Al-Solaylee, THE GLOBE AND MAIL:

"You haven't lived until you've seen the Last Supper as a puppet show….Few can match Miller's impeccable comic delivery and joyous energy."

John Coulbourn, TORONTO SUN:

"BTJ is funny, often thought provoking and surprisingly not irreverent, considering the times."

Lynn Slotkin, CBC RADIO:

"Who would I recommend this for? Anyone with an inquiring mind, who loves theatre that is edgy, intelligent and thought-provoking. It's important. Don't miss this."

Jon Kaplan, NOW MAGAZINE:

"Loaded with humour, dramatic intensity and even moments of horror, ?Bigger Than Jesus  is anchored by Miller's winning performance, which moves from energetic hijinks to serene contemplation under Brooks' careful direction.

"Don't hesitate if you have no link to religion. There's a spiritual quality in the work, sure but it's a universal one…. There isn't a more invigorating, thoughtful and exciting piece of theatre in Toronto."

Christopher Hoile, EYE MAGAZINE :

"[Bigger Than Jesus] alternates between the simple beauty of the mass itself and Miller's wildly funny interpolations."
