Award-winning WYRD and Necessary Angel Theatre Company production of
BIGGER THAN JESUS
has European premiere at Munich's SpielArt Festival tomorrow
Created by Rick Miller and Daniel Brooks, performed by the universally lauded Miller, and directed by Necessary Angel Theatre Company's Artistic Director Brooks, Bigger Than Jesus will receive its European premiere at the Spielart Festival in Munich tomorrow running November 26 to 28. The festival is a month-long theatre festival that showcases theatre works from around the globe. (www.spielart.org/en/home)
This multi-media mass for a modern age won three Dora Mavor Moore Awards last season in the General Theatre Division: Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Principal Role - Play for Rick Miller and Outstanding Lighting Design for Beth Kates.
After that huge success, Bigger Than Jesus toured to Calgary for another sold out run and to the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal. This past fall, Factory Theatre remounted the show to again capacity houses.
Now the WYRD Productions and Necessary Angel Theatre Company production of Bigger Than Jesus receives its European premiere at the Spielart Festival in Munich November 26 to 28.
In Bigger Than Jesus, Jesus lives - in every conceivable shape: as John Lennon with the three Apostles (Beatles), as a fanatic tele-preacher who outshines every U.S. political campaign, as a toy figure at the Last Supper, and in an airplane, where he prays to get over his fear of flying: "Why? Why? Why must I die?" Rick Miller is "Bigger than Jesus," and the video camera is the eye of God. He conjures up a multimedia mass with Catholic liturgy and gospel songs, with Bible quotes and ingenious technology, and at the same time he conjures up a comical-theatrical pop event.
Rick Miller will perform it in English and German in Munich.
