Necessary Angel Theatre Company announces a single opportunity to see a reworking of Daniel Brooks’ critically acclaimed play, The Good Life. First seen at Tarragon Theatre in 2002, The Good Life has since been reworked and was produced in Calgary in 2003, where it won Outstanding Production of a Play at the prestigious Betty Mitchell Awards.

The Good Life is a sharp, witty exploration of the nature of love in contemporary urban relationships. Dan and Gena are successful professionals who love each other and their children. They lead “the good life”. Their friends Chris and Mary do not; they can’t stop bickering. Add a couple of sexy singles and the bonds of all relationships are stretched to the limit. What do we talk about when we talk about love?

The reading of The Good Life features Daniel Brooks (Insomnia), Laura de Carteret (Sideman), Kate Hennig (The Danish Play), Luke Kirby (Mambo Italiano), Diego Matamoros (Uncle Vanya) and Elana McMurtry (The Good Life in Calgary). The stage manager is by Isaac Thomas.

This is the first presentation by award-winning writer, director, and actor Daniel Brooks as the new Artistic Director of Necessary Angel Theatre Company. Known for his collaborative work with artists such as Daniel MacIvor, Don McKellar and John Mighton, he was the inaugural recipient of the Elinor and Lou Siminovitch Prize for Direction in 2001.

Necessary Angel is celebrating its 25th anniversary this season as one of Canada’s most innovative, risk-taking theatre companies.
