NA LAB Artists in Residence Applications are open for the 2026/27 season.
Necessary Angel invites applicants to our NA LAB Resident Artist program. Applications are now open for a Playwright in Residence (NA LAB PiR) for a two-year residency (2026/27 and 2027/28) and Artist in Residence (NA LAB RA) for a one-year residency (2026/27).
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
(2026/2027 season)
The NA LAB’s Artist in Residence Program supports the voices of outstanding artists as they explore theatrical storytelling at the edge of their artistic practice. Learn more about the NA LAB on our website.
The NA LAB Artist in Residence is one year in length. During the residency the Resident Artist will work on a creative project with support from by Necessary Angel's Artistic and Admin team as needed. The Residency includes a $5,000.00 residency fee and dedicated funds up to $1,000.00 towards expenses related to the development of the project. These funds could be used for materials, travel expenses, rehearsal spaces, etc.
The Artist will create and lead one Artist Lab for the NA LAB during their residency. The Artist Lab is a professional development workshop, class or seminar, which will be created and lead by the Artist. The creation of the Artist Lab will be in consultation with the Company’s Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director.

Selected applicants will be invited for an interview in Spring 2026. The successful applicant will being their residency in July 2026 for the 2026/27 season.

PLAYWRIGHT IN RESIDENCE 2 YEARS
(2026/27 and 2027/2028 Season)
The Playwright in Residence program provides dedicated support, empowering the playwright to delve deeper into their artistic process while actively engaging to Necessary Angel's vibrant artistic programming. Learn more about the NA LAB on our website.
The NA LAB Playwright in Residence will have a two-year residency that includes a $5,000.00 residency fee, and a commission for a new play. The Resident will be supported by Necessary Angel’s Artistic Team with meetings, reading and workshop to be discussed.
The Artist will create and lead one Artist Lab for the NA LAB for each year of their residency. The Artist Lab is a professional development workshop, class or seminar, to be created and lead by the Artist. The creation of the Artist Lab will be in consultation with the Company’s Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director.
