Overview
The Necessary Angel Theatre Company is seeking a detail-oriented and passionate Development Associate to join our team on a part-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of one of English Canada’s most vital and risk-taking theatre companies. The Development Associate will play a key support role in sustaining and growing the company’s fundraising initiatives, helping ensure our continued success in producing bold, original work.
As Development Associate, you will support all aspects of Necessary Angel’s development efforts, including donor relations, database management, grant tracking, campaign assistance, and event support. You will help maintain and grow meaningful relationships with donors, funders, and community stakeholders while keeping fundraising operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities
Manage and maintain donor database, ensuring accuracy of gift records and prompt acknowledgment of contributions
Draft and coordinate donor communications such as thank-you letters, e-blasts, and appeal letters
Support grant application tracking and assist in preparing proposals and final reports
Help plan and execute fundraising campaigns and donor cultivation events
Research new funding opportunities, including corporate sponsors, foundations, and major donors
Assist in developing and maintaining development collateral and marketing materials
Participate in weekly check-ins and staff meetings as required
Provide general administrative support to the Development and Artistic leadership
Ideal Qualifications
2+ years of progressive experience in fundraising, membership, or related fields—preferably in a cultural or nonprofit setting
Post secondary Education in Development and Fundraising or equivalent
Strong organizational and communication skills Familiarity with fundraising software and donor databases (e.g., Sumac, CanadaHelps, or similar)
Experience with Event Planning
Experience with or interest in grant writing and donor stewardship
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
A collaborative spirit and ability to work independently
A passion for theatre and a deep appreciation of Necessary Angel’s mission and legacy
Work Hours & Compensation & Benefits
Part-time position 15 hours per week with flexible scheduling (some remote work possible)
Occasional evenings or weekends for donor events may be required
Reports to the Development Director (or Artistic Director if applicable)
Hourly wage: $25–$30/hour, commensurate with experience
Vacation and Paid sick leave in accordance with Ontario labour laws
